In this study, TDR detection of the studied inorganic (NaCl) and organic pollutants (acetone, benzene, heptane, tricholoethylene, and xylene) was evaluated experimentally and theoretically. For inorganic pollutants, samples were prepared with different water contents and NaCl concentrations, which were tested using TDR. For organic pollutants, samples were prepared with pore fluid content of 14% and different ratios of organic fluids to deionized water ranging from 0 to 100%. The TDR waveforms were analyzed using eigendecomposition technique. Eigenvalues were calculated by using autoregressive modeling and the singular value decomposition technique. Then, the most significant eigenvalues were identified, based on their power, and used in the multivariate statistical analysis. In addition, for organic pollutants, the relative eigenvalues of the first mode were calculated and correlated to organic chemical type and content, as well as octanol water partition coefficient.
