Photonic device applications of quantum-well structures: role of particle scattering on device performance

Abstract: Some basic optical processes in quantum well structuresare described and some photonic devices utilizing theprocesses are discussed. The operation of the devicesdepend on the interaction between particles and thescatterers. The scattering mechanisms are mentioned andthe role of the processes on absorption, lifetime, linewidth of emission and mobility are indicated.!15
