Applications of polymer composites within the oil industry

The application of composite materials, polymers or fibre re-inforced polymer matrices, is gradually increasing with the Shell Exploration and Production environment. This increase in usage is partially due to the success of previous applications and a general acceptance of the benefits, both material, commercial or financial and safety. For composites to be financially successful the costing must be done on a life cycle cost basis as the Capex cost is usually greater then CS equivalents.
