CLEARING THE FOG FATS, OILS, AND GREASE MANAGEMENT AND SSOs

Upon entering a Regional Consent Order with Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) to prevent sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs), the City of Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities (DPU) created a long-term Management, Operations, and Maintenance (MOM) program. Part of the MOM program was the creation of a Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Management Program. The FOG Program includes public education as well as inspections to more than 1200 active Food Service Establishments (FSEs). These are in approximately 50% of the sewer service areas maintained by DPU.
