CHARACTERIZATION OF DIFFERENT CLAYS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF ARTIFACTS CERAMIC RED

Inside the Rio de Janeiro, the city of Campos dos Goytacazes, plays an important role in the manufacture of ceramic products, which reportedly own segment, employs about 5000 employees, but more than a hundred ceramic tiles in the city. But it has been noticed that in most cases the ceramic production industry still use empirical methods to formulate the ceramic mass, resulting in a loss in quality and natural resources. This work aimed to study three types of soils from Campos dos Goytacazes Basin/RJ on its mineralogy and its physical behavior, for both tests were applied linear change, water absorption, particle size, atterberg limits and apparent porosity. Chemical Analysis and X-ray diffraction were made in order to identify the presence of clay minerals. At the end it can be concluded that soil studies can be used in the manufacture of ceramic bodies.
