The Ni-Mo + PE_(Ni) coatings were prepared from a galvanic nickel-molybdenum bath containing a suspension of polyethylene subjected to preliminary nickel plating (PE_(Ni). Surface morphology was examined using scanning electron microscope. Electrocatalytic properties for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) were investigated on polyethylene-modified Ni-Mo coatings in 5 M KOH, using steady-state polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods. Based on the obtained results parameters of hydrogen evolution process have been determined. The value of a rate constant is almost five times higher for the coating with polymer than for the Ni-Mo alloy. Therefore, it was found that the process proceeds better on the coatings containing an embedded PE_(Ni) than on the Ni-Mo coatings. Thus obtained coatings may be useful in application as electrode materials for the hydrogen evolution reaction.
