Information Practices Meet Lifelogging Technologies: Towards A Successful Multimethod Research Framework

Information Practice research emphasises on contextualrnfactors such as the situation, social roles, collaborators, orrncommunications of information behaviour. This widerrnscope allows us to gain enriched, deeper, and complexrnunderstanding of how people interact with information inrnvarious contexts. However, this also poses researchersrnmany challenges in data collection and analyses, sincernconventional methods such as observations, interviews,rnsurveys might not either possible or complete. Meanwhile,rna range of wearable devices have become commodity andrncollecting a large amount of personal lifelog data hasrnbecome much easier than before. On the other hand, thernresearchers who are familiar with qualitative methods andrncomputational methods do not often communicate, althoughrnthey are likely to have common research agenda.rnThis proposed panel provides a unique opportunity to inviternpanellists from the two research communities, and discussesrnhow lifelogging technologies may (or may not!) contributernand transform information practice research. The panel willrnalso involve the audience in sharing their personal orrnscientific experience with lifelogging technologies, or theirrnexpectations or concerns regarding the use of lifeloggingrntechnologies in their research. Outcomes from the panelrndiscussion should yield some clear pointers that canrnfacilitate multimethod research in Information Practices.
