Constraints and Flexibility in Enterprise Systems:A Dialectic of System and Job

摘要

In this paper, we describe a key finding from a casestudy of an SAP R/3 implementation – a pattern oforganizational change involving a dialectical interplaybetween the characteristics of the information system andthose of the jobs of the users of the system. Analysis ofthe case study data revealed a shift in constraints andflexibility between the information system and individualjobs as a result of the enterprise-wide systemimplementation.
