Noise and Hearing Conservation Review

Since the 1980s, OSHA has been protecting the hearing capacity of American workers through 29 CFR 1910.95, the Occupational Noise Standard. This standard requires an employer to institute a Hearing Conservation Program when the 8-hour time weighted average noise exposure reaches 85dBA. This program consists of a written document, sound level monitoring, employee training, hearing examinations, and the use of hearing protection devices, such as ear plugs and ear muffs.
