Composition analyses on both intact single seed and single half seed soybean samples can be successfully performed with state-of-the-art FT-NIR instruments. Spectral variations and light scattering effects were effectively corrected by pre -processing procedures including baseline correction and light scattering correction. Our calibrations are characterized with high correlation coefficients and low prediction errors, with R>99% and SEP<1% for all four components. Seed-to-seed variations in protein, oil, moisture, and isoflavones content can thus be monitored for the first time on individual soybean seeds of selected soybean accessions.
