Soy Hulls for Gestating Soy Diets

Overall reproductive performance of sows fed 18% soy hulls during gestation in this trial was slightly better than the corn-soybean meal control in terms of number of piglets born alive. Body weight at birth of piglets from sows fed 18% soy hulls was significantly better than from sows fed a diet with 28% wheat bran. On a litter basis, total weight of piglets and birth and weaning at 28 days from sows fed soy hulls was significantly better than the corn-soy control or a diet with 28% wheat bran. Based on these data and previous work carried out by ASA in China, it can be concluded that 18% soy hulls can be fed to sows during gestation with a potential increase in litter performance and definitely no depression in overall sow reproductive performance.
