The present paper deals with the elastic stability of a sandwich barrelled shell. The case of globalrnstability is considered. Geometry of the shell is defined aswell as the field of displacements, forwhich the brokenrnline hypothesis is applied. The core of the shell is assumed to be light. The shell is simply supported at bothrnends and loaded with uniform external pressure. As a result of the investigation the mathematical description ofrnthe stability problem of the sandwich barrelled shell is presented obtained on the basis of the minimum of totalrnpotential energy criterion. An approximate solution of the problem is proposed. Besides numerical investigationrnwas carried out. The dependency between the geometry of the shell and the value of the critical load is shown.rnDifferent thicknesses of the core were considered. Comparison of sandwich barrelled shell with monocoquernconstruction and cylindrical shell is made.
