RESTORATION OF BUILDING FACADES WITH COMPOSITE MATERIALS

Numerous old buildings are in great need of significant restoration of their exterior facade elements. Such restoration must be designed to be economical, durable and in most cases, should be done without any significant impact on the building's aesthetic values. This paper discusses the restoration of the facades of the Henry F. Hall building at Concordia University in Montreal using fiberglass reinforced composites. The project demonstrates that molded composite cladding, when used correctly, provides attractive, durable, and cost-effective solutions to a wide range of exterior building restoration problems. This paper outlines the methodology and the technical information associated with the project and demonstrates the benefits of the technology.
