Implementation of a new PDM system at Schlumberger-WesternGeco: a courageous organisational approach

Schlumberger, a global technology services company, will implement a new PDM system throughout the company. A global implementation team has been appointed to manage the task. The first organisation implementing the system is the Technology Centre (Western Geco) in Oslo, Norway. Challenges to be met are many, technical, cultural, organisational, relational etc. The technical issues are attracting most of the management's attention. The resources are mainly allocated to technical issues. Nevertheless, implementation team are discovering that human factors seem to be the most important aspect of the implementation work. People are the key of the process. Courageously planning with and for the users is the only way towards implementation success.
