Reconstructing Stratigraphic Deposits from Archaeological Profile Drawings

During an archaeological excavation, data is recorded in a variety of ways, often by hand in archaeological notebooks, through the use of simple levels and theodolites, as well as through the drawing of stratigraphic profiles. Once recorded, this data usually resides in an unreconstructed form, with little recourse for later reconstructioa This paper proposes a method in which profile drawings can be used to reconstruct in more detail the 3D stratigraphic sequence of an archaeological site, opening up new possibilities for the 3D reconstruction of sites excavated in a traditional manner.
