Evaluating the Web user interface design of a bibliographic database on women's health

A series of comparative evaluations of the prototype web interface for a bibliographic database on women's health were conducted in September 2002 The visual design (aesthetics) and information architecture (how information is categorized, labeled and presented) were examined in detail during these evaluation sessions.rnResults from the review sessions are grouped into three areas of Web interface design: overall visual impression; hypertext navigation, and information architecture, A number of issues were identified concerning primarily the number of search options and their labelling. Recommendations proposed by the expert reviewers are detailed. Congruence between reviewers' comments and guidelines for user-centred design developed by Web usability experts is noted.
