Jordan has been experienced an expansion in the number of electrical appliances. In order to reduce energyrnconsumption in the residential sector, Jordan has to consider implementing minimum energy efficiencyrnstandards (MEES) for electrical appliances in the coming years. This study provides background on thernbenefits of, and steps needed to support introduction of Energy Efficiency Standards and Labeling in Jordan.rnFurthermore, this study attempts to predict the amount of energy that will be saved in the residential sectorrnby implementing MEES for the cold electrical appliances (refrigerators and freezers).rnIt was found that cold appliances are consuming the highest energy amount about 32.7% of total householdrnelectrical energy consumption in Jordan. At worst scenario, it is found that the net saving from 2011-2020rnwill be approximately 4451.17 GWh by the end of year 2020. The associated CO_2 emission reduction duringrnthe 10 years is expected to reach 2221 (1000 ton) in the same period. In addition, the reduction of customerrnbills will reach 320 million JD.
