Vector Geographical Information Systems (GIS) use points, lines and polygons to represent the shape and position of spatial information. Classes, attributes and links are usefed to achieve the representation of semantics of spatial information. Assessing accuracy of geographical data sets is obtained by comparing them to data sets of higher accuracy. Such comparison requires efficient matching tools, as do applications working in a multi-source context. Matching algorithms rely on a comparison of spatial information. Some have already been developed and most focus on the matching of points. Some work has been conducted on the matching of lines too. Very few exist on the matching of polygons. This paper proposes new methods for comparing polygonal features in GIS.
