摘要

Recently a famous Korean architect H-Sang Seung, known as notion of The beauty of poverty1, has shown various architectural form based on the metaphysical theory in the house design. Suzol-Dang is a house for a professor and Subaek-Dang is a second house as residence for a retired advocate. The usage of outer space and meaning to the space in these residences are under the contextual character. The element of "Stone fence, white wooden floor, white wall, one lonesome tree" were symbols that say the "The beauty of poverty". "The beauty of poverty" was from the graphic image of Giacometti's sculpture, drama stage of Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for godot" and "Epitaph in the North Wall" of wandering resistance poet Kim, ShiSeup. The beauty of poverty' is a mental virtue found upon the great nobleman in the Chosun-Dynasty. Architect made a empty space with self-enclosed wall, which wall used to be shown on works by Luis Barragan, Ando Tadao. This attitude is not only based upon the 'Critical Regionalism' and but upon the third and own peculiar way to uniqueness. This report aims to reveal that two residences, Suzol-Dang and Subaek-Dang by H-Sang Seung, has different form, but the topological structure was same. Two residences were designed by H-Sang Seung had conceptual and perceptional association of Dokrak-Dang's form and space. Also houses designed by Seung were an identical conception in topological structure with Dokrak-Dang, which was built in Chosun Dynasty during the 16th century. The Dokrak-Dang was constituted four blocks, 'An-chae' for the hostess and woman servant, 'Sarang-Chae' for host and man guest, 'Gongsu-Kan' for the servant and 'Gye-Jung', secret personal pavilion. Separated guest room could be reflected the Sarang-Chae which was divided inner private and semi-private inner space from the entrance. Cultural context in historical architecture would give influences on the spatial composition for the modern houses.
