MAIN LOBE APPROXIMATION FOR THE TARGET STRENGTH INVERSE PROBLEM

The paper presents the simple novel method of transducer beam pattern approximation. Proposed approximation allows to evaluate a beam pattern PDF needed in indirect methods of target strength estimation. One parameter fit under the scheme of this approximation can be easily obtained from the slope of the main-lobe of transducer beam pattern. Presented linear approximation of this parameter (γ) gives straightforward evaluation of functional form of beam pattern and further its PDF.
