1. The increase in residual Cu content reduces the mechanical descaling of mild wire rods. This reduction is a consequence of two different effects. Firstly, Cu reduces the thickness of scale layer and secondly, it promotes the formation of Cu rich particles at the steel/scale interface. 2. The influence of thinner scale layer can be reduced by increasing the laying temperature in a range limited by the possible modification of the scale characteristics (constituents and blisters). 3. The Cu rich particles at the steel/scale interface can increase the scale adherence. Its concentration depends both on the Cu content and on the billet reheating conditions.
