Verb-Particle Constructions and Lexical Resources

In this paper we investigate the phenomenonrnof verb-particle constructions,rndiscussing their characteristics and theirrnavailability for use with NLP systems. Wernconcentrate in particular on the coveragernprovided by some electronic resources.rnGiven the constantly growing number ofrnverb-particle combinations, possible waysrnof extending the coverage of the availablernresources are investigated, taking into accountrnregular patterns found in some productiverncombinations of verbs and particles.rnWe discuss, in particular, the usernof Levin's (1993) classes of verbs as arnmeans to obtain productive verb-particlernconstructions, and discuss the issues involvedrnin adopting such an approach.
