THE CASE OF A PING, A SHUDDER AND A ZAP (VIBRATION DIAGNOSTIC PITFALLS)

When investigating and analyzing an equipment condition we are in some ways driven by our experience history. We need to be careful however, that while our experience may drive our investigation methods we do not rely on our experience to drive our diagnosis. Vibration analysis is typically a process of deductive not inductive reasoning. We need to ensure we collect the proper data to define as much of the condition as we can and interpret what is portrayed in that data by other evidence that may be available. This paper presents an example of such an experience.
