To obtain fundamental information for analyzing the behavior of minor elements in copper smelting, the activities of silver, tellurium and selenium which are the important by-products were measured in the Cu-Cu_2S two phase region by a high temperature mass spectrometric technique combined with the copper and copper and copper sulfide phases was also investigated by addition of each element at the same temperature to estimate the equilibrium compositions between the two phases in a charged sample for the activity measurement. Silver activity in the miscibility gap of Cu-Cu_2S-Ag system exhibits positive deviation from the ideal behavior with gamma_Ag~o of 9.9 and 3.3 in the copper and copper sulfide phases, respectivelyl Activities of tellurium and selenium in both coexisting phase show extremely negative deviation fromideality. The activity coefficients at infinite dilute solution in the copper sulfide phase saturating with copper are 9.8 x 20~-3 for tellurium and 5.6 x 10~-4 for selenium at 1473K.
