In 1997,the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) and Operations Excellence Consulting,Inc.(OEC) initiated on site training of SOCMA member ocmpanies employees.The training is targeted to assist employers to comply with employee certification as required by the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) regulation,the pending,the pending EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) and the chemical industry's Responsible Care direct R initiative.The week long training workshop is based upon the SOCMA Chemical Process Operator Trainee Manual.The manual was originally created in 1991 and was updated by OEC in 1997.The subject materials range from basic skills such as safety,math,chemical,energy,fluid properties,pressure,temperature and heat.The training has been taught to both batch and continuous chemical plant operators.Nine 10-question quizzes are administered to the students during the workshop.The students are asked to provide a daily evaluation of the workship materials and instruction.A final comprehensive evaluation by the students is requested at the conclusion of the workshop.
