Analysis of Input-Output Controllability in Reactive Distillation Using the Element model

There are several tools from linear control theory to help in control systems design. The aim of the present work was to establish if it was possible to determine the best control scheme for a reactive distillation column with current linear control tools. A study of the control properties for three control schemes of a MTBE column was undertaken to determine the best. The findings were tested using dynamic simulation. The results show that it was possible to select an input-output control scheme with the help of linear measures and that the results can be reliable.
