Study of Security Simulations in Mobile Ad Hoc Network

In Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET), hosts are connected to each other using wireless links of multi-hop communication. MANET's highly self-organized and self-maintained attributes increase its vulnerability to be attacked. In this paper, study of security in MANET using simulations was conducted. Comparisons of simulation results of throughput, end-to-end delay, packet delivery and buffering in ANODR and AODV demonstrate that for long hop distances, ANODR performs better; for medium and short distances, there is no significant difference between the two protocols. Simulation results also indicate that Secure Neighbor and IFF can be applied to defend Wormhole attacks in certain cases. The investigation of adding secure neighbor or ISKAMP in routing shows that neither secure neighbor nor ISKAMP caused the degradation of performance metrics due to the addition of security.
