Usability of the Pen Input Device on a Menu with Force Fields

This paper conducts a usability study with a total of 30 participants on the usability of "force fields" combined with the pen input device on a graphical user interface. The study compares the tablet PC pen input device with and without force fields enabled. The results showed an increase of selection speed with a slight decrease in selection accuracy. The results also showed an overall increase in usability. However, two-thirds of our user's subjective impressions of the force field system were found to be negative, while one-third of the user's had a positive impression of the force field enhanced menus combined with the pen.
