In 1998, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with SSAB OXELOESUND AB to ballistically examine their ARMOX family of steels, specifically their medium (370 Brinell) to higher hardness classes of steels (up to 640 Brinell). SSAB provided ARMOX plate in thicknesses from 10-mm to 80-mm and ARL ballistically tested the plates with 7.62-mm, 12.7-mm, 14.5-mm, and 30-mm armor-piercing projectiles. In this paper, the V_(50) data is compared to existing data for similar thicknesses of rolled homogeneous armor and high hard steels.
