SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY AND TECHNOLOGY: A CASESTUDY – THE EUCATEX WOOD COMPANY

Among some of the issues most prevalent in the administrative and management universe arernthose relating to ethics as well as those related to environment (natural and operational). In thisrnoptics, there is a growing quest for economic growth and social development in parallel with therndefense of an ecologically balanced environment. This article begins by presenting some ethicsrnconcepts and its adequacy to the practice world, particularly of the technology, focusing onrntheories and applications specifically in the business world, highlighting some key aspects ofrncontemporary technological thought once sustainable development can be interpreted as a formrnof proactive management in terms of operating practices. It was also developed some conceptsrnabout cloning – a centennial biotechnology very useful yet and environmentally impacting. Afterrnthis initial context which intended to establish the fundamentals of analysis of such issues, it isrnpresented a case study of one of the biggest world manufacturing companies, particularly in thernwood sector. This institution is a traditional organization, major generator of foreign exchange inrnthe Brazilian Trade Balance as resulting from exports, and politically influential in the richestrnstate of Brazilian federation. This case presents the positive and negative aspects of its ethicalenvironmentalistrnpractice, including the major contemporary adaptations regards manufacturingrntechnologies, as well as forestry, where there are intense cloning practices. After detailing thesernpractices developed with environmentally sound technology, one presents several socioenvironmentalrninstitutional practices with special attention to the institutional environment,rnnotably through the presentation of various projects carried out by the organization in itsrnsurroundings.
