A metal clad waveguide sensor with gold cladding is analyzed for metamaterial guiding film and dielectric guiding layer. The sensitivity of the proposed sensor and existing sensor, is derived using Fresenal’s equations in reflection mode for TM mode polarization of incident light. On analyzing the result we can say that enhanced values of cover layer sensitivity is obtained in reflection mode for TM-polarization of incident light because metamaterial enhances the evanescent field due to its negative refractive index. Apart from this adalyer sensitivity is also larger for the proposed sensor as compared to existing metal clad waveguide sensor. But a limited range of cover layer refractive value is there for which sensor can detect the change.
