Polarimetric SAR interferometry (PolInSAR) is a promising remote sensing technique that has been frequently used for extracting forest height. The existing methods such as the ESPRIT method and three-stage inversion algorithm tend to underestimate the forest height due to attenuation of the electromagnetic waves in the ground medium. This paper proposes an improved hybrid inversion method based on phase diversity (PD) coherence optimization and target decomposition in order to improve the accuracy of the forest height estimation. Then the coherence amplitude method is used to compensate the forest height. Finally, the proposed method is validated with the simulated PolInSAR data by PolSARProSim software and the results show that accuracy of the forest height estimation can be effectively enhanced by the proposed method.
