In order to cope with the explosive growth of the future mobile communications network traffic, a large number of small cell base stations will be deployed. The backhaul communication for small cells poses a significant challenge, and with huge bandwidth available in the millimeter wave (mmWave) band, the wireless backhaul at mmWave frequencies can be a promising backhaul solution for small cells. This paper aims at maximizing the network throughput and minimizing the total transmission delay in mmWave backhaul networks. This problem is decoupled into two sub-problems: routing and link scheduling. The sub-problem for routing is solved by the method of linear programming. Subsequently, for link scheduling, a heuristic scheduling algorithm based on the maximum set of transmissions is proposed to minimize the scheduling period. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to the existing scheduling methods.
