The coupling processes of high power microwave pulse with narrow slot cavity are simulated with the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. By calculating and analyzing the coupling fields distribution and the coupling coefficient of energy changing with the transmission path and time, the coupling enhancement effects and resonant characteristics of narrow slot cavity excited by electromagnetic pulse are presented. Based on Maxwell's equations and a set of electron-fluid equations, the nonlinear coupling processes of high power microwave are simulated. Results show that the air breakdown and tail-erosion phenomena can occur in a slot even when the amplitude of the incident wave is below the normal breakdown threshold.
