This paper describes the interworking between admission control, radio resource scheduling algorithm and link adaptation in a wireless LAN environment. Based on the software download scenario and the assumption of amount of data to be downloaded in the network, we evaluate the link mode selection function in the admission control process by means of the throughput degradation to the co-channel users. Some effects of the link adaptation and its interworking with the scheduler algorithm are investigated. We show the initial mode (modulation scheme and channel coding) selection is dependent on the amount of data to be downloaded. Hence, a sub-function of admission control function is proposed, which is one part of the framework of the admission control algorithm applied in WLAN network. Some investigations and simulation results for WLAN and conclusions are given in the end. Based the review of the similarities between Hiperlan/2 and IEEE 802.1 la, it is concluded that same basic principle of mode selection can be applied in both systems.
