When designing a forming fabric, there are a limited number of tools available, and compromises must be made to meet the required performance functions on the paper machine. The tools are used to develop the fabric and the resulting properties aid in predicting machine performance. Often the best performance predictor is the fabric history for a specific grade and paper machine configuration.rnBy gaining knowledge of the forming fabric functions, design tools, and fabric properties, the complexity, restrictions, and compromises involved in optimizing forming fabric design can be better understood.
