A survey about present and future Distance Learning efforts was distributed to fifty department/college heads at Texas Tech University. Twenty eight of them were completed and returned. Nineteen of these were relevant to Distance Learning. The results showed that the vast majority of traditional paper-based correspondence courses were on the undergraduate level, while departmentally conducted video/internet courses were focused mainly on the graduate level. Most departments had at least one course, but only eight had any planned. Three particular departments presently had twenty or more courses, and the same three had twenty or more new courses planned. Departmental courses predominantly used the internet and/or video for delivery of distance education materials. The main inhibitors of Distance Learning were lack of time and financial resources.
