INTEGRATING ISO 9000 INTO A DESIGN METHODOLOGY FOR ELECTRONIC PACKAGING

The main reason for doing ISO 9000, at the beginning of this journey several years ago, was purely pragmatic - IBM wanted to be able to do business in every country in the world. ISO 9000 was and is considered to be a condition for bid in several contracts, both governmental and industrial.rnIncorporating ISO 9000 into the design methodology for quality was more of a challenge. The existing system, Total Quality Management, or Market-Driven Quality (MDQ) as it is called in IBM, was already firmly established.rnBecause ISO 9000 was perceived as a business requirement rather than a quality initiative, it was received by the "troops" with mixed reactions. This paper will describe how ISO 9000 was deployed into IBM Mid-Hudson Valley and how it is used today to document and improve our design methodology.
