@@ Introduction: The concentration of Creatine Kinase (CK) in blood has been widely used for many years as a marker of exercise induced muscle damage. Reference values for male and female athletes have previously been established and published to protect physicians from misinterpreting high CK values and to help coaches establish guidelines for optimizing training. It is also known that factors such as gender, age, race, muscle mass, physical activity and climatic condition can influence CK. More recently different genotypes have been investigated for influencing the CK response to exercise. Since CK values can vary greatly between individuals, with some athletes being low responders to physical training (chronically low CK serum levels) and some athletes being high responders (higher values of enzyme) , we decided to establish individual profiles for our athletes, rather than using general reference values. This study presents the reference values for our population of adolescent Middle East athletes as well as a possible potential method for creating individual reference ranges.
