摘要

The crystal growth study of 5-ethyl-5-methylhydantoin in water has revealed severalrninteresting features: (i) although the title compound crystallises as a conglomerate,rnsingle crystals grown from a racemic mixture contain almost no enantiomericrnexcess; (ii) crystals grown from racemic solutions exhibit systematically hourglassrninclusions perpendicular to the most developed {(101)} faces; (iii) small quantitiesrnof wetting agent induce an important elongation along the main axis; (iv) partialrnredissolution experiments lead to the appearance of lamellar fragments of highrnenantiomeric purity. These observations are discussed on the basis of structural andrnmodelling data.
