Freak Waves and Their Conditional Probability Problem

摘要

The importance of so-called freak waves regarding design of offshorernstructures is considered. The existence of wave events considerablernlarger than those being likely under a second order assumption for thernsea surface elevation process is recognized. However, these wavernevents will not impact our design conditions unless they occur with arnsufficient frequency. A probabilistic model is suggested for thernconditional probability of freak waves given the sea state and arnsensitivity study is executed based on this model.
