Early validation of requirements is often used to reduce the risk of misrepresenting aspects of complex systems in domain models. However, engaging non-technical domain experts to validate complex object-oriented domain models remains a key challenge in software engineering projects. This paper presents a domain-expert-friendly approach for engaging domain experts in early requirements validation based on the use of ontologies. The utility of this approach is evaluated through a case study for the development of toolset to support work based learning in the undergraduate medical curriculum of the Manchester Medical School.
