A FRAMEWORK FOR QUALITY DATA CAPITALISATION FOR UK ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING

Quality management is critical in electronics manufacturing, especially in markets specialised in high value added goods such as the case in the UK. It has been shown that the capitalisation of knowledge generated from historical defect data can be used to support new designs. However, the literature focuses mainly on defect detection or in data reutilisation, but little attention has been paid to the collection, formalisation and storage of defect data. In this paper, a framework to support quality data capitalisation focusing at the collection stage is presented. The framework was developed in the form of a software tool and based on requirements specified by the end-users in industry. A description of the resulting software and its role on defect data capitalisation is provided in the paper. The following section illustrates the application of the software in an industrial environment. Finally, the conclusions of the study are drawn and the future prospects of the research summarised.
