Management of information technology infrastructure (IT infrastructure) is one of the key issues in IT management. IT infrastructure management involves investments that are supposed to serve the organization For years. It is also expected that the infrastructure is both reliable and flexible to adapt to changes in the future. This calls for thoroughly planned development, and expertise in the underlying technologies. The driving force of IT infrastructure management is developing a system that supports the strategies and operations of the company. Here we look at the challenges involved in IT infrastructure management. Interviews in case companies indicate that the role of application providers, operators, consultants and other experts is important in IT infrastructure management. Also the interconnections to suppliers and customers are a key part of IT infrastructure management. The argument is that development and management of IT infrastructure can benefit from these partnerships. Partnerships benefit all who are involved and may have a critical impact on the IT infrastructure management in the company.
