A 20% Xenon Flat Lamp with 1 mm plate gap is driven by square waves with two different ramp rates (dU/dt) for 7 Vs and 0.7 Vs. The surface discharge between the electrodes with a 4mm gap has been studied. . The luminance and luminous efficacy (EFF) are both improved in 7 Vs. A maximum luminance and panel efficacy then is obtained of 10,000 cd/m2 and 13 lm/W, respectively. The research on efficacy concludes that the increase of luminous efficacy is mainly reached by improving electron heating efficiency.
