Markets are dynamic entities wherernforces generated by competition, clients and external factors such as investors, regulators and creditors have direct impact on the magnitude and directionality of these forces. Yet all past strategic theories have treated these markets as static or, at best, incrementally dynamic. This paper builds on a series of articles by the authors that have introduced full dynamic modelling to strategy development. The concept of the force field that guides market evolution has been analysed in recent conferences and journals and now in this paper we anchor the model to empirical evidence drawn from the hi-tech PC sector. The paper also develops testable hypotheses linking the market force field model to the lifecycle model in early market situations such as introduction, growth and maturity phases.
