This paper shows that an analogy between the transcendental eigenproblem and the infinite order linear eigenproblem hypothetically obtained from the finite element method when using an infinite number of elements yields highly accurate inverse iteration mode finding methods when solving the transcendental eigenproblems which arise when the member differential equations are solved exactly for vibration, critical buckling and wave propagation problems.
