A system for analyzing the impact of urbanization on changing temperature patterns, the system comprising: a temperature derivation unit for obtaining the land surface temperature (LST) from the thermal bands of the satellite imagery, converting first digital numbers from the thermal bands to the radiance over the atmosphere (TOA), which is then converted to the brightness temperature, and finally to the land surface temperature (LST) is converted; a terrain element derivation unit for obtaining the relevant indices of the terrain elements, such as water, vegetation and built-up area, using different bands of satellite imagery, the terrain element derivation unit comprising: a vegetation index deriving unit for obtaining the vegetation index that emphasizes the vegetation cover, using a soil-adapted vegetation index (SAVT) for obtaining the vegetation index; a padding index derivation unit to determine the padding index, a scarcity index derivation unit for obtaining the scarcity index derived by performing a normalization of the mid-infrared and thermal-infrared bands; and a water index derivation unit for obtaining the water index for classifying the water bodies in the area, the water index being derived by performing a normalization of the near-infrared and green bands.
