The present invention relates to a formulation for the prophylactic treatment of an infectious disease comprising two core components, of which a first core component A contains at least one substance SA related to the target disease, and a second core component B contains at least one substance SB for targeting a disease-related homeostatic mechanism that assists core component A in inducing a beneficial environment for developing appropriate protection mechanisms against the disease, wherein substance SA is a biological material from an inactivated pathogen or a part thereof, and substance SB is a synthetic or naturally occurring substance different to substance A. According to the invention, each of the substances SA and SB are contained in the formulation in a concentration lower than 10-6 g/mL.
