To provide an indirect-type ferroelectric material for a pyroelectric infrared sensor, having low environmental load and capable of converting temperature change in spontaneous polarization into an output electric field.SOLUTION: An indirect-type ferroelectric material for a pyroelectric infrared sensor has a composition showing A8(MO)X, wherein: A is Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn, Sn, Li, Na, K, Agor a combination thereof; M is Al, Ga, In, Si, Fe, Mn, Ge, Sn, Fe, Mnor a combination thereof; and X is Cl, Br, I, CrO, MoO, WO, SO, MnO, S, S, BO, e, or a combination thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
